Red Dress Run

This Saturday in New Orleans is the annual Red Dress Run. The Red Dress Run is put on by the New Orleans Hash House Harriers (NOH3). NOH3 is a "running" club that focuses on drinking. There is an actual two mile race that takes place Saturday morning but almost everyone just puts on a red dress and heads to the French Quarter. I had always thought of the Red Dress Run as another strange excuse for New Orleans to drink all day, but non-profits that work in the Greater New Orleans Area can submit a grant application to NOH3 and win grants from the money raised. When I was working with a local non-profit we were fortunate enough to win one of those grants! This race helps to support many great local non-profits focusing on a variety of issues from education to poverty. The money we received from this grant funded my fruit tree planting project with Habitat for Humanity. I encourage everyone to sign-up and participate in this race!

Saturday night is Dirty Linen Night in the French Quarter. Last Saturday was White Linen Night where people dress in white and art galleries in the CBD stay open late so you can gallery hop. Dirty Linen Night is always the next Saturday and art galleries on Royal in the French Quarter stay open late. The idea is you are supposed to wear your dirty linens from the weekend before but since the Red Dress Run is an all day drinking affair, a lot of people will be in red. Sales from Dirty Linen Night benefit a dog rescue organization, I love that!
